Deviant Distillery, a high tech distillery in Hobart Tasmania, is doing something no one has even though of before.
They’ve developed their own propriety technology that can create ten year old whisky in just 10 weeks.
Not only does this mean that the turn around on creating a fantastic whisky is dramatically less, it also means that the impact on the environment is minimised.
The company has been in Business for almost a year and has been setting themselves up for their official launch in 2017.
As you can imagine, when creating such an ambitious product, time and money are always in short supply.
Being the smart entrepreneurs that they are, Gilda Sorella and John Hyslop, co-founders, entered the BizGiver Grant.
BizGiver, run by Australia’s first online Small Business Insurance Comparison Site, is a $2000 Small Business Grant that awards a Small Business or Start-up a much needed wish to help grow their business and take it to the next level.
The competition runs every quarter and sees entries from businesses owners across Australia.
The past winners of this grant have included a Dog Day Care in Northern NSW, a Gym in seaside country Victoria, an Art Gallery specialising in Indigenous Art in Inner Western Sydney, a Plumber on the lower NSW Coast and even a Children’s Entertainment and Circus Performer based on the outskirts of Brisbane.
Deviant Distillery’s unique premise, their great wish for labels for their bottles, as well as their outline for growth, saw them be named finalists in the Spring Round, and then later thanks to their fanbase was voted the winner of the competition.
“Winning this award and garnering public support for our efforts and our business means a great deal to us,” said Hyslop “The financial and emotional burden of this project has been high but seeing the public choose our business from such strong competition has really made us feel that all the effort has been worthwhile.”
“The cost of producing labels represents a significant component of our start-up budget,” he continued, “The BizGiver program is one of the few opportunities young businesses have to alleviate some of the financial burden faced when trying to grow their brand and programs like this really make a difference in allowing us to grow and reach our market potential.”
It was this very reason that BizCover Managing Director, Michael Gottlieb, wanted to start the competitive grant.
“We wanted to honour that uniqueness that so often gets overlooked and a grant like this can really be the gift they need to allow their business to take a step up to the next level,” he stated.
“We have customers in nearly every type of business, it’s amazing to see these individual and very unique businesses like Deviant Distillery be successful,”
A wish will be granted by Bizcover.com.au quarterly in the form of a specific product or service valued at up to $2000. Businesses must have a valid ABN to apply but don’t need to be an existing BizCover customer to enter.
