7 Ways to Spring Clean Your Business

Spring is in the air, making it the perfect time to revive your business. Whether it’s learning a new skill or giving your workspace an overhaul, spring cleaning your business is an opportunity to refresh and create new opportunities.

Not sure where to start? We’ve got 7 ways you can do to start spring cleaning your business today.

1. Review your outgoings

Take some time out to do the checks and balances. It could save you a fortune in the long run when you start finding ways you could be saving your hard-earned dollars. Like many SMEs, it is easiest sometimes to just set and forget when it comes to suppliers and subscriptions. Make a list of all the services and subscriptions that you are currently paying for and shop around.

Your needs change with time and what may have worked when you were first starting out may not be the best product or service to suit your business now. Look at ways you can bundle your services together to lower costs and if there are new providers out there.

2. Actually clean

While it may seem an obvious one, physically cleaning your workspace is a great way to declutter and create a more inviting work environment. Whether you work from home with a small office or run a warehouse, doing a good clean out never goes astray.

It’s an occasion to get rid of old paperwork and things you no longer need. Why not splurge and get some new bits of furniture, whiteboards and even some plants to liven up your space?

3. Check your stock/inventory

Go through your stock and dispose of anything that is damaged, expired or no longer of use. You might be surprised how much space you could be saving by getting rid of stock you no longer need. If you don’t already have a system in place, there are now apps available to help manage your stock in the tap of a button.

4. Learn something new

With such a variety of online learning platforms now available, it has never been easier to learn a new skill. Whether you want to finetune your sales pitch, create a killer marketing campaign or get your head around bookkeeping, there is something for everyone out there.

Check out these sites for a mix of free and paid courses that you can do in your own time:

Deep clean your inbox

If 1000 unread emails is an all too familiar sight, then it’s time to clean out those unwanted messages. Not only is it a chance to get rid of all those emails taking up space but it’s the ideal time to unsubscribe to all those email subscriptions you no longer want to receive mail from.

Refresh your marketing

Spend time reflecting on your marketing strategy, addressing what channels are doing well and what can be done differently. Look at which campaigns are generating the best ROI and focus on how these can help your business grow.

Planning future marketing campaigns with a bit of research and understanding the stats helps with spending funds in the right areas and ultimately increases business.

Review your insurance

As your business grows and changes, so do your insurance needs. Revisiting your business insurance policies is something for you to do regularly to check you have the right protection in place.

Here are some things to keep in mind when reviewing your policies:

  • Has your business employed more staff or had an increase in turnover?
  • Have you purchased more business contents? If so, is your sum insured still adequate?
  • Have you made any renovations to your business premises?
  • Are your portable equipment items insured correctly?
  • Are you still performing the same kind of business activities that you listed initially when taking out your policy? If your business activities have changed, let your insurer know.
